What Remains of an Image
Imaging Images
2026
In my current body of work, I reverse the process of audio description. I use museum descriptions of well-known artworks—originally created to make visual art accessible to blind and low-vision audiences—as the starting point for new drawings. Verbal descriptions translate visual qualities such as subject, form, texture, space, and detail into language.
Without using the original artwork as a visual reference, I translate these descriptions back into images. What language defines becomes a framework; what it leaves unsaid creates space for memory, imagination, and my own visual decisions.
The resulting drawings are not reconstructions of the originals, but new images shaped by what language can transmit, what is lost in translation, and what emerges through imagination.
The work asks what remains of an image when its visibility is lost—and whether its description can become the beginning of a new image.
